JVC also offers an iPod adapter which will allow you to view the file information on the deck, control the ipod with the deck and remote, and charge your iPod at the same time. It is a bit steep though, about $100.

Note about SD card support (these presumably apply to CD-Rs also)

supports songs in multiple levels of folders

recognizes folders as albums

songs are ordered by filename so files ripped without a track number in the filename might be out of order

supports FAT format, not FAT32

displays ID3 tag data (filename and folder name are displayed first, then replaced with Album / Artist and Title in a few seconds, if tags are present.)

The volume does glide smoothly up and down when you hold the button. I've found that very useful since trying it, it's almost as handy as a real knob.

I'll check the volume button when my car gets back from the shop tomorrow. I haven't tried holding it down.

The radio presets are a next-previous arrangement like CD tracks, they don't have individual buttons except on the remote. That would probably be a deal breaker for me except that I don't listen to the radio much these days...

You can set names for the radio presets and pop up a list of them to select from too, but it doesn't have the instant gratification of individual preset buttons...

Can you just hold the volume button down to lower the volume or do you have to push it repeatedly?

I prefer a volume knob, but the pushbuttons have worked well for me. Sometimes while I'm listening to a song I'll want to turn it up a bit or down a bit, and a couple of clicks accomplishes that just fine.

The volume adjusts in whole numbers from 1 to 50 (or 1 to 30 if you've set a low power preference). The range I actually use is about 15 to 25, so it takes maybe 10 clicks to get from one end of my useful range to the other. In practice I usually make 2-3 units of change at a time, which is quick.

The other use for a volume knob is to grab it and turn it down quickly because you need to talk to someone or answer the phone---the ATT (attenuate) button does that instantly on this unit, so I've been happy with it.

Is it difficult to get used to the push button volume controls rater than the roatary knob, and how fast can the volume be lowered/raised?
